Celbius is a UK-based research and development company working across natural pigments, sustainable polymers and applied green chemistry. We develop our own product lines and collaborate on programmes where our chemistry, scientific knowledge and commercial experience can add value.
Our aim is simple: to take what nature already makes — colour, structure and function — and turn it into effective materials that work commercially and stand up to scrutiny.
Good chemistry is only part of the process. We develop products with regulation, manufacturing, cost and commercial viability in mind from the outset.
Regulatory-first: We consider UK and EU regulatory requirements throughout development, helping formulations arrive compliant rather than needing to be retrofitted later.
Materials to market: We bring together polymer, pigment and formulation science, considering costing, supply and manufacturing alongside the chemistry.
Partnership-driven: We collaborate with specialist partners and licensors to move ideas from early-stage discovery towards practical, manufacturable products.
Our green chemistry expertise supports work across cosmetics, textiles, foods and sustainable materials. By combining our scientific knowledge with the specialist experience of our partners, we develop materials that are not only innovative in the laboratory, but also suitable for real products and real markets.
Based in the United Kingdom, our principal areas of work include natural pigments, bioplastics and biocatalysis.
Steve has a passion for science and innovation that spans 35 years in senior positions in industry. He is a strong supporter and specialist in green chemistry, promoting the use of enzymes that are nature’s gentle catalysts. Spending much of his career in the field of pharmaceuticals, Steve has accumulated a deep understanding of what it takes to design and produce effective safe drugs, as evidenced by many scientific publications.
